And I’m starting to barrel through some of the unworn.
Part of the fun of this project has been utilizing my overstuffed, undershopped wardrobe; when planning my outfits for the week (a sometimes soothing task), I felt bored with everything I’d been wearing. It’s kind of delightful to go “okay, self, let’s head to the hall closet (the dresses live there) (I know, I know, my roommates are saints) and see what we can find.”
I do think I could document the entire contents of my closet, if I thought about it long enough, had enough paper and time . . .blah blah blah, but there are always things I forget if I don’t wear them frequently . . . and this is one of them:
I got this dress at a clothing swap co-hosted by my friend, the infinitely stylish and capable Chelsea. It used to belong to my friend Saren (hey Saren! See, I’m still giving your pretty dress a loving home!). I am all. about. the environmentally friendly swapping option – it’s new to me, it’s super-lovely, and hey, the price is right and it’s a good use of resources. Karma for everyone!
And of course, the outfit wouldn’t be complete without the gorgeous necklace Lauren gave me for my birthday – I’d be mostly naked without my friends today, clearly.
Oh, and what’s that? Ooooh, nothing, it’s just my petticoat!
The dress is beautifully shaped on its own, but since I was layering (so you wouldn’t see the perfect fitted waist and shoulder detailing), I opted to add a little width, weight and flounce at the bottom. Parfait. (Nothing, but nothing, makes me feel as feminine as a fouffey petticoat.)
Okay – and yes – this outfit is a semi-swapped ripoff of Day 46. I love, though, that while the ensemble is basically the same (red dress, navy tights/cardigan, neutral shoes), that the look is somewhat different – far more Sound of Music and less Wicker Park hipster.
Guys, I know I have an overstuffed closet. (I am working on it.) But I never realized that I might already have the Clueless Ultimate “Closet For Every Possible Need”. (Like, two red dresses. And. Umm. For a girl who doesn’t really care for maxi dresses, I found five in the wardrobe. Yup.)
It’s a process, guys! I’m learning! I’m wearing! By hook or by crook, I’mmagonna figure out how to be a reasonable (and still fashionable) human being.
