Day 151
Good morning (good mooooorning) y’all. Today, I’m once again joining Everybody Everywear.
and I present to you, my summer styling of lace.
I love, love, love this dress. It came to me from Ebay by way of a play I did last summer (where, ahem, I may have purchased both of the fabulous maxi-dresses I had as costumes. And used the occasion as an excuse to pick up some fancy undies and glittery hair accessories.) It actually came with (and looks amazing with, I must say) a thick, rich, red velvet sash. For summer, though? I swapped that out for this more lightweight look.
It’s vintage, it’s a fantastic shape, it’s swoony and delightful. I adore it. Let’s add it to the list of “I’ve worn this once” pieces that I love enough to wear once a year without any qualms about usefulness.
Hilariously enough, guess what I’m doing with my day? After some errands . . . I’m headed all over the city to find a vintage-style party frock for a friend of mine to wear to her wedding. (Yes, of course, she would be welcome to borrow this.)
Remixed:
I’m so glad you kept that dress!
Me too. 🙂
I need to borrow a good casual jacket from somewhere to make the purple one more day-wearable – I think it can be done?
It’s a pretty dress but it looks a little bridal at its current length. Have you considered having it shortened to knee-length? That would make it easier to wear on more occasions. A shorter dress would look cute with a cropped or shrunken denim jacket, for example.
You make an excellent point – although, I kind of like the bridal evocation? It’s just such a lovely and unique shape, and I always feel so dressy and special in it. But you’re right – it would shorten beautifully and be much more daily-wear-friendly. (I smell a reinvention when I tire of it.)
VERY elegant errands today! I think it’s a great dress, but reading your other comments, I agree that knee length might make it more versatile.
Thanks for joining us at EBEW!
Thanks! And yes, I feel I have never let practicality get in the way of a good outfit . . .
And I love, love, love EBEW – thank YOU guys!
Wow! Gorgeous dress! Looooove!
I looove your dress. I’m also a big fan of vintage maxi dresses, even if they are not the most practical item of clothing.
yay, thank you! They’re kind of a wonderful find, aren’t they? I feel like no one makes them in these styles anymore!
Its a lovely dress, the high belt really works well. Love your shoot location, the stairs look great.
Thanks so much, Sophie 🙂
Gorgeous dress! I love your no clothes shopping challenge. I’m on a 3 month no buying thing at the moment. It’s tough, but really good.
Yay! No-shopping company! It’s amazing how much your perspective changes so quickly, isn’t it? And, yes – very, very hard sometimes. Things can be altogether too cute for comfort.
Loving this dress!! I owe you an email — and promise to get on that, STAT!! — but wanted to throw in my love for this gorgeous maxi. In a sea of tribal prints and weird maxi patterns, this lace dress is a truly refreshing and beautiful creation. Don’t get rid of it!!!!
Haha, no worries – these are busy times! And thanks – it is definitely one of my favorite pieces.
